Silva rozpoczął karierę pisarską jako dziennikarz, zatrudniony tymczasowo w United Press International w 1984 r. Jego zadaniem było objęcie Demokratycznej Konwencji Narodowej . United Press International sprawiło, że stanowisko Silvy stało się stałe, a rok później przeniósł go do siedziby głównej w Waszyngtonie . Po dwóch latach został mianowany korespondentem UPI na Bliskim Wschodzie i przeprowadził się do Kairu w Egipcie . Silva urodziła się w Detroit , Michigan , USA. [>>]
