Pisarz szkocki, autor wielu popularnych powieści o tematyce sensacyjnej, kryminalnej i wojennej. Urodził się 21 kwietnia 1922 w Glasgow, zmarł 2 lutego 1987 w Monachium. Debiutował opowiadaniem Dileas w 1954 roku, a następnie napisał powieść "H.M.S. Ulisses", która stała się bestsellerem w 1955 r. We wczesnych latach sześćdziesiątych zdecydował się pisać pod pseudonimem Ian Stuart.
