Katherine Rundell spędziła dzieciństwo w Afryce i Europie. Po obronie doktoratu na temat Johna Donne’a, stała się pisarką na pełen etat.
Pisze książki: literatura młodzieżowa, publicystyka literacka, eseje, literatura dziecięca Wykłada także w college’u All Souls w Oxfordzie. Tam też bada literaturę renesansu, a w nocy wspina się na dachy starych budynków. Za swoją twórczość otrzymała wiele nagród i wyróżnień, między innymi Nagrodę Literatury Dziecięcej Waterstones i Blue Peter Book Award.
